Engine of growth?
Resources could be an engine for growth in African countries such as Ivory Coast, Nigeria and South Africa. In some countries they already play this role. However, natural resources still represent a great jeopardy. Actors involved in the exploitation of these natural resources have no interest in giving up their lucrative business. As long as no restrictions or binding control is put on selling these goods on the world market, there is hardly any impulse to change the malpractices involved in the exploitation of natural resources. And growth will be hard to accomplish in the near future.
