Fatal Transactions was formed in 1998 as the coalition of European NGOs concerned and shocked about the role diamonds played in the conflicts in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Angola. Fatal Transactions argues for already ten years that in conflicts where natural resources play a role, the only way to create peace is addressing this issue with political action and political will. Support to military operations such as MONUC in the DRC, providing humanitarian aid to the victims in the eastern DRC is needed, but will not be enough. For any solution of the conflict, the issue of natural resources needs to be high on the agenda. The international community must make the supply chain transparent not allowing dirty commodities entering their products and markets.
