IKV Pax Christi
IKV Pax Christi is the largest peace movement in the Netherlands. Its staff members support peace and reconciliation efforts in conflict areas located in more than twenty countries spread over four continents.
The purpose is to build bridges, to nurture mutual understanding and to improve disrupted relations between groups. IKV Pax Christi uses different means of communication and various activities to draw public and political attention to hotbeds of conflict in the world and to raise funds to finance projects and programmes abroad.
IKV Pax Christi's Economic Dimensions of Conflict Programme works towards a situation in which economic actors promote sustainable peace and in which oil, gas and mining companies contribute to peace and respect for human rights. Due to the scope and duration of their investments, oil, gas and mining companies exert considerable influence on their surroundings and are best served by stability. Within this framework, IKV Pax Christi adds greatly to the international Fatal Transactions campaign. The issues around oil in Sudan are an important part of this programme. Pax Christi also coordinates the European Coalition on Oil in Sudan (ECOS), a network of more than eighty NGOs in Europe. ECOS tries to draw attention to the human rights situation in oil-producing areas and to stimulate the oil industry to operate in such a way that it contributes to peace and prosperity in Sudan.
IKV Pax Christi participates in the "From Fatal to Fair Transactions" Campaign
- IKV Pax Christi has prepared a dossier on oil in Sudan for information-sharing and awareness-raising in Sudan together with an oil-map which gives insight in which oil companies exploit what areas in Sudan (related to ECOS)
- IKV Pax Christi started the website www.su-dan.org with an action to write a letter of concern to Chinese government officials and some key players of a Chinese oil company, which is the largest oil producer in Sudan
- IKV Pax Christi organizes presentations and debates about the key issues of the Fatal Transactions campaign and more specifically on oil in Sudan
