Group Chad
Group Chad.
Human Rights – Resources and Conflict – Peace Building
Group Chad is an NGO network aiming at nonviolent conflict transformation and a democratic process within Chad, and the Central African region. Its members are church based development organizations, NGOs and solidarity initiatives. The network was initially founded to support local activists monitoring the implementation and impact of the World Bank-financed Chad-Cameroon Oil Pipeline Project. It is still monitoring the impact of natural resource extraction in the Central African region.
Group Chad is doing advocacy directed towards German, European and multilateral institutions to urge them to enhance their engagement for a peaceful conflict resolution in the Central African region, always insisting on the necessity of a regional approach. The Berlin-based network organizes a yearly conference on Chad-related subjects to offer a forum for discussion to the relevant actors. Group Chad also organizes lobby meetings for Chadian civil society activists in Berlin and Brussels. It provides information from its local partners to decision-makers in Europe. Furthermore, Group Chad publishes a bi-monthly newsletter on recent developments in Central Africa in the fields of political conflict, human rights and the extractive industries' sector and related activities of its members.
