BICC workshop Governing the Gift of Nature in Geneva
BICC/ Fatal Transactions Germany organized a panel at "Governing the Gift of Nature: the Links between Governance, Conflict and Natural Resources", the 12th European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) General Conference.
The EADI conference was held from 24-28 June in Geneva, Switzerland, and focussed on "Global Governance for Sustainable Development: The need for Policy Coherence and new Partnerships".
Resource governance, conflict and campaigning were the key words for the BICC workshop held at the EADI conference on Friday 27 of June, 2008. Speakers were Jolien Schire, researcher at BICC who gave a presentation on her research on the link between resource governance and conflict. Professor Ayodeji Olukoju from the University of Lagos presents his case study on the Niger Delta in Nigeria where oil and gas form the backbone of the Nigerian economy. Morten Boas approached the resource-conflict issue as well, but from an agricultural perspective and Anneke Galama from the Fatal Transactions campaign stressed the need for more collaboration and cooperation between researchers and campaigners.
