Publication of Congo mining contract review welcome; renegotiations should be fair and transparent
Congolese and international non-governmental organisations today welcomed the publication of the review of mining contracts by the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and called on the government to ensure that the renegotiation of contracts is conducted openly and fairly.
New BICC data base service: Natural resource wealth and conflict
On 12 March 2008, BICC presented a new English data base service, the Resource Conflict Monitor (RCM). With the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BICC experts have been able to develop a data base on 90 resource-rich countries, which over the past eleven years gives an insight into the effects of resource governance on the relationship between natural resources and violent conflict.
Fatal Transactions presents results of the mapping research in the DRC
Fatal Transactions member IPIS presented the results of their recently published report ‘Mapping Conflict Motives: Eastern DRC’, in the DRC. The findings and conclusions were presented to NGO’s, MONUC and embassies in Kinshasa as well as interested local media.
