Blood diamonds and the Kimberley Process

The Kimberley Process (KP) has been influential in stopping 'blood diamonds' from fuelling conflict in Africa and other parts of the world. This web dossier, prepared by Fatal Transactions, critically explains how the KP works and what the pro’s and con’s are. The web dossier is a valuable introduction to the KP for anyone interested in the topic. Throughout the dossier those interested in more details can find links to more elaborated sources. The links section holds a number of websites of key-stakeholders and a selection of key literature.

Since its foundation in the late 1990s, the Fatal Transactions campaign is battling the fuelling of conflict through ‘blood diamonds’. Therefore, Fatal Transactions was also involved in the creation of the Kimberley Process (KP). Currently, Fatal Transactions is one of the three main Northern civil society observers to the KP and manages the KP fund which enables civil society representatives from the South to participate in KP activities.
